The latest extravagant creation from Bottrop is hidden behind the name Brabus Rocket GTS and is powered by a modified hybrid powertrain with 1,000 “horses”.
Brabus still has a creation based on the Mercedes SL model, which is hidden behind the name of the company’s legendary founder (Bodo Buschmann), which can be enjoyed by four people under the open sky, but in the case of the Rocket GTS model, they prepared the SL with a slightly longer hard fixed roof, a third door and a trunk that can fit several suitcases.
In order to get the SL with the body shape popularly called Shooting Brake, they installed new body panels on the standard platform in Bottrop, which, down to the last, are made of carbon.
The space under the extremely widened fenders is filled with a combination of dark 21 and 22-inch rims on which Continental SportContact7 tires measure 275/35/21 (front) and 335/25/22 (rear). In addition to carbon fiber, mass reduction was helped by the abolition of the electric folding roof.
As expected, the most powerful version of the SL (Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance) was used for the basis of the project, whose 4-liter V8 biturbo engine is assisted by an electric motor above the rear axle.
Again, as expected, the combined power of the AMG PHEV package (816 HP) was not enough, so the Brabus team, with multiple refinements and an increase in the working volume of the engine (to 4.4 liters), reached 1,000 “horses”.
With 1,820 Nm of maximum torque (400 Nm more than standard), which is distributed to both axles by a refined 9-speed automatic transmission, the Rocket for four people reaches from standstill to “hundreds” in 2.7 seconds and develops an electronically limited 317 km /h. They say that it goes much faster without a limiter.
In Bottrop, they also worked on the brakes and adaptive suspension, but did not reveal the price and the number of copies that they will make. One thing is certain, there won’t be many of them.
